My word yes. The 1927 Nobel prize for Medicine went to Julius Wagner-Jauregg who was awarded for: "his discovery of the therapeutic value of malaria inoculation in the treatment of dementia paralytica"
basically he infected patients who had developed general paresis of the insane (as a complication of syphilis) with malarial parasites.
