excessive medicine

DSCN1418z, originally uploaded by youheng1.

Yes, the timeth of the year have cometh... its the holidays for everybody else and we, from the yong loo lin school of medicine are still going on strong. And we even missed the earlier 1week hols. This SUCKS! Still shan't complain too much cuz things are *Looking Up* to the Cambodia rough and tough coming on the 18th or 17th... hope this pulls through.. thanks to the valiant efforts of Mr Loh and Ms Lim...

p.s - and hope my D200 arrives before then. it would be such a shame to go with the D70. :(

British WWII memorial

DSC_7263, originally uploaded by youheng1.

Another one from myanmar. This memorial was an oasis in a desert - cut grass and well maintained front garden with clean structures. Very much unlike the grime covered buildings all over the city falling into disarray... it seems the british treat their dead with more respect and dignity then the people of myanmar do for themselves.

OR

maybe its just because the british are filthy rich and the natives are filthy poor. In anycase, money or shall we say currency has ridiculously absurd effects when applied to a banana country. Does the foreign currency really have so much economic worth that the disparity in standards would be so great? one wonders...

Anyway, on the bright side (sense the sarcasm in the force Luke!), money has often been pushed aside and chastised for being the "Ultimate Goal". Yet, here we have the junta moving into the mountains - an economically unfeasible plan if there ever was one.

Good on them then! Im guessing they must have other goals in life other than chasing money! This has to be appluaded by all standards! (quite surprise surprise unlike the money ruled but cash heavy singapore do you think?)

Life is hard isn't it?

DSC_7085z2, originally uploaded by youheng1.

Photo: Monk (no more that 12?) at a temple in Myanmar, Yangon city.

Someone commented today that this photo made the boy look far older than his age. I responded by saying that perhaps life was hard and harsh in Myanmar and hence the haunted look.

Subsequently i realised in a mental epiphany: dude, im swimming in a sea of neurotic faces in medicine - life is no less stressful in singapore when you think about it... true, we might have gotten the promised land of JOB SECURITY having been bonded and bloody well surgically welded to the government but id say thats a high price to pay!

Its no big secret that Singapore spends rather little in public health care. Its even less so of a secret (if it can even be counted a secret) that public MO's are underpaid and overworked. Follow this up by increasing regulation, standards, declining privileges, the ridiculous drive for ever more certification (i swear we'll have wallpaper diplomas for decor next!) and the depressing prospect of having to do it ANYWAY cuz you owe a third of a million dollars to the government...tell you what: "Sounds like happy stew to me."

I wonder if you've seen the look on an MO's face recently.

the one eyed cat of holland village

Yup.. flogged my other 80 - 200 lens today at a tidy price of $830.. and had *surprise suprise!* the money to afford the sigma HSM 80 - 200 for 20 bucks more... (Joy joy!)

walked around Holland village today just to test out the lens and caught sight of that cat just lying on the grass. light levels were a little low... so the iso had to be pushed to 800. not exactly ideal, but i think it works.

also on alex's suggestion, smoked salmon is very *ying qian*

- the happy owner of 400gs of smoked salmon, traditional and peppered.
now i just need some good red... hmm *fingers wallet*

Prozac thou art lifteth the mood!

DSC_0417, originally uploaded by oyclubsnap.

Lets see what medline has to say about Prozac then:

Fluoxetine (Prozac) is used to treat depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder (bothersome thoughts that won't go away and the need to perform certain actions over and over), some eating disorders, and panic attacks (sudden, unexpected attacks of extreme fear and worry about these attacks). Fluoxetine (Sarafem) is used to relieve the symptoms of premenstrual dysphoric disorder, including mood swings, irritability, bloating, and breast tenderness. Fluoxetine is in a class of medications called selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs). It works by increasing the amount of serotonin, a natural substance in the brain that helps maintain mental balance.

thought for the day:
Photoshop comes a close second. i rest my case.

Handholding a UWC?

DSC_0588, originally uploaded by oyclubsnap.

This is pretty interesting from a technical point of view. When you handhold a longer lens, the rule of thumb has always been to assume a shutter speed of 1/x... where x was the length of the lens. Now applying the same formula to the UWA (ultra wide angle) range of 15 mm... we get nice sharp photos handheld at 1/3s. Makes for interesting effects with motion blur...

you sure you wanna make that miserable turn boyyo?

DSC_0532, originally uploaded by oyclubsnap.

Gee up! ...and move way for the 10mm monster of a lens! *ego* i kinda like the way this photo turned out as i was just shooting for fun with the lens outside funan... for those who know me a bit better... well, the title says it all. *wink* *and did i mention damn?*

Guilty

Now life stands as such: im going out to take photos again today. great isn't it? I tell myself its post exam catharsis - i.e its my *entitlement* gesh!

but with dave (bless him) reminding that CA's are only 6 weeks away... somehow im not so overly enthusiastic anymore. so now i feel guilty. bah. i shall go chew on something to make me still fatter... now thats something we can all look forward to. :)

Stamping new/old/progressively MORE stale ground....

Right! Here we go again - the urge to blog and reveal embarrassing details of my life has struck . (and you thought lightning never struck the same idiot twice)

In anycase, hopefully this one will be a slightly longer lived digital outpost. If it isn't, well hey.. im not paying for the bandwidth *snigger*
