02S73 Class outing to games place

YHP_2325, originally uploaded by ou yang.

its been 4 years since we graduated! Pretty much nothing has changed: we're still trying to put En2 together with FCT, old cliques have stayed (though we're a lot more together), jh and me are as obsessed with photography as we were in yesteryear...daniel is still tormenting junie...Its good to feel so comfortable with old friends.

But...theres probably something to be said about xinmin whom i haven't seen for 3 years (in which hole in the ground have you been hiding!?) Xinmin has transformed from the nerdy V&R scout to a *lavish* beauty. so much so that i didnt reognise her when she just strolled past me on the way to the cafe. According to her, "its just the permed hair". yah right! hahahaha - if thats the case, permed hair should be hailed as the next coming...

M4 Paeds Debate

YHP_1469b, originally uploaded by ou yang.

And the notion was: this house believes that a bone marrow transplant should be considered for a child with severe and unresponsive eczema. The eczema is socially restrictive, cosmetically disabling and unresponsive to conventional therapy.

On the proposition we had Hanboon, Eleanor and myself. The opposition comprised, Ren Jun, David and Jake. I thought it was a relatively fun debate considering that the question was strongly skewed in favour of the opposition but was also sufficiently /vague/ to allow for some debate.

It was the first time i had to constantly fight the constant urge to snap into pure medical mode and reject the notion outright. Frankly speaking (i can now say this publicly lol. debate over!) , there really IS NO PLACE for a bone marrow transplant in such a patient. It is simply dangerous, unproven and complicated. So for once, i actually entered into a debate with my gut feeling already condemning the notion - not a good idea.

Anyway, after some 2 - 3 hours of preparation and research by every one of us on the proposition, we were able to put up a strong fight. Im extra pleased to report that we won! :)

It must be said though, the opposition did put up a couple of good points which we didn't have a rebuttal to. Had us sweating for a moment there!

As for prizes, the department generously sponsored us all chocolates and pens. Not bad for 3 hours of work! I also got a wireless mouse which will soon be deployed for DOTA purposes. *grin* :)

OT2 Cast at the Medical Alumni Preview.

DSC_8088, originally uploaded by ou yang.

Man - after a week of intense pushing, we finally managed to put up a decent performance at the Alumni Association. Some minor glitches but all in all, IM VERY PROUD OF THE CAST!

Ben and Shawn - you SANG ON FIRE for the "Just Imagine song." Seriously, i think mic-ed up and faced with an audience, you guys just lapped up the attention and shone right through. In particular, Ben's stage persona was fabulous - the professionalism and dedication to his role never fails to make me keep hope.

Eunice - the rendition of "Invisible" had to be one of your best. Sure there was some mis-syncing of the music... but it was the rest of the song that really made up for it. This was a rendition where you poured far more emotion in to than your regular sessions. Keep it up girl! :) Cast, YOU ROCK MY WORLD!

Our next hurdle comes December 8th where we perform to the senior management of NUS. All in all, i can only hope that the response will get better in the canvasing aspect... we are still a very broke production! That said, i was VERY touched by the enthusiastic showing by the members of the advertising and ticketing team. they sacrificed CA mugging time to come down to help publicise OT2 at the expense of their own highly tight time frames.

Moyin's idea of the t-shirt is proving to be one of the most prescient unplanned for inclusions to the marketing drive campaign. It spreads publicity, makes us seem a lot more credible and yes, it also makes money! How much more can a producer ask for!

Other bright sparks in this episode outside the performance itself include the wonderful work of my never-tiring shawn and ben who have always matched my enthusiasm measure for measure. Moira, amelia, siying, pearlly and nat who gracefully rose to the challenge of both dancing for OT and for this performance. I'll be the first to admit that it was a very last minute call - but it came through so beautifully!

Extra credit also must go to Grace and the music team who came up with a recording of the opening song on such short notice.... as they say: no music, no musical! Truthfully, that true statement couldn't truly be truer said!

Jinesh and team also seem to have shaped up and have been making successful bomb runs into hospitals and getting donations left-right-centre. Kudos to the brave few who take the piles of unglamorous administrative work and yet work hand in hand towards a common goal. Marketing: its a luckless and thankless job... but from the bottom of my heart, thank you!

Lastly, theres Chris - my tireless co-director whos had to suffer my "stressed-out "temperament, last minute changes, rehearsal scheduling, music sessions and so much more. Chris, if i haven't already said this, i love you - but i think you know that already.

If i haven't specifically mentioned you in this post, i still want to give a big "Thank You! OT Cast and Crew!" I know we're gonna make this a fantastic musical.

Keep up the energy okay? its only 41 days to the production...

ENTP

Extraverted iNtuitive Thinking Perceiving
by Marina Margaret Heiss

Profile: ENTP
Revision: 3.0
Date of Revision: 26 Feb 2005

"Clever" is the word that perhaps describes ENTPs best. The professor who juggles half a dozen ideas for research papers and grant proposals in his mind while giving a highly entertaining lecture on an abstruse subject is a classic example of the type. So is the stand-up comedian whose lampoons are not only funny, but incisively accurate.

ENTPs are usually verbally as well as cerebrally quick, and generally love to argue--both for its own sake, and to show off their often-impressive skills. They tend to have a perverse sense of humor as well, and enjoy playing devil's advocate. They sometimes confuse, even inadvertently hurt, those who don't understand or accept the concept of argument as a sport.

ENTPs are as innovative and ingenious at problem-solving as they are at verbal gymnastics; on occasion, however, they manage to outsmart themselves. This can take the form of getting found out at "sharp practice"--ENTPs have been known to cut corners without regard to the rules if it's expedient -- or simply in the collapse of an over-ambitious juggling act. Both at work and at home, ENTPs are very fond of "toys"--physical or intellectual, the more sophisticated the better. They tend to tire of these quickly, however, and move on to new ones.

ENTPs are basically optimists, but in spite of this (perhaps because of it?), they tend to become extremely petulant about small setbacks and inconveniences. (Major setbacks they tend to regard as challenges, and tackle with determin- ation.) ENTPs have little patience with those they consider wrongheaded or unintelligent, and show little restraint in demonstrating this. However, they do tend to be extremely genial, if not charming, when not being harassed by life in general.

In terms of their relationships with others, ENTPs are capable of bonding very closely and, initially, suddenly, with their loved ones. Some appear to be deceptively offhand with their nearest and dearest; others are so demonstrative that they succeed in shocking co-workers who've only seen their professional side. ENTPs are also good at acquiring friends who are as clever and entertaining as they are. Aside from those two areas, ENTPs tend to be oblivious of the rest of humanity, except as an audience -- good, bad, or potential.

Whoa ENTP fits be to a T (people who know me can confirm this!)

The classic temperament of an ENTP is Promethean, or Phlegmatic, for whom a basic driving force is the search for competence or excellence.

Contributions to the team of an ENTP

In a team environment, the ENTP can contribute by:

  • challenging the status quo, and encouraging other team members to achieve more than they thought they could
  • leading other team members to a greater understanding of the concepts and principles involved
  • involving people who are competent in relevant skills
  • contributing creative ideas on how the task can be achieved or quality improved
  • creating new ideas out of confrontational discussion
  • finding ways to overcome apparently insurmountable difficulties
  • generating team spirit though the ENTP's own energy and enthusiasm

The potential ways in which an ENTP can irritate others include:

  • initiating too many projects, and not being able to deliver on all of them
  • introducing too much change, and not leaving well-established, workable routines alone
  • not taking sufficient account of current realities
  • appearing competitive and unappreciative of the contribution of others
  • leaving someone else to do the routine work
  • making errors of fact

Personal Growth

As with all types, the ENTP can achieve personal growth by developing all functions that are not fully developed, through actions such as:
  • being selective about the initiation of projects
  • pausing and thinking, and recognising that others will accept the ENTP and his/her ideas more if their own contributions are accepted and valued
  • appreciating the value of existing routines that work well
  • investigating the facts, and documenting them, before interpreting what they mean
  • taking time to consider the impact of the ENTP's approach and ideas on people's feelings
  • expressing appreciation towards others

Recognising Stress

As stress increases, 'learned behaviour' tends to give way to the natural style, so the ENTP will behave more according to type when under greater stress. For example, in a crisis, the ENTP might:

  • spend time brainstorming ideas, and debating or critiquing what needs to be done
  • provide a lot of drive, but try to do too much
  • draft in people with proven skills to work on the problem
  • make errors of fact, or ignore routine matters that might nevertheless be essential

Under extreme stress, fatigue or illness, the ENTP's shadow may appear - a negative form of ISFJ. Example characteristics are:

  • being pedantic about unimportant details
  • doing things to excess - e.g.: eating, drinking or exercising
  • expressing emotions in an intensive and uncontrolled way
  • being very sensitive to criticism

The shadow is part of the unconscious that is often visible to others, onto whom the shadow is projected. The ENTP may therefore readily see these faults in others without recognising it in him/her self.

Personality Quiz!

You Are An ENTP

The Visionary

You are charming, outgoing, friendly. You make a good first impression.
You possess good negotiating skills and can convince anyone of anything.
Happy to be the center of attention, you love to tell stories and show off.
You're very clever, but not disciplined enough to do well in structured environments.

In love, you see everything as a grand adventure. You enjoy taking risks for love.
And if things don't work out, you're usually not too much worse for the wear!

You would make a great entrepreneur, marketing executive, or actor.

At work, you need a lot of freedom to pursue your own path and vision.
How you see yourself: Analytical, creative, and peaceful

When other people don't get you, they see you as: Detached, wishy-washy, and superficial

However, all was not well for the people who still had active patients on their hands...Not wanting to disrupt the consultation, Jessica simply propped up an umbrella and continued. Yes! it was raining quite heavily then too. (look at the water streaming down the umbrella!)
